.: Sunday, Sunday :.

Memory verses that my Sunday School kids need to memorize. So proud that most of them can! :)

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the earth

Psalm 139:14a
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made

Hebrews 12:1b
Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us

Romans 5:8
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Encourage one another and build each other up

And the verse for the month of July:

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again : Rejoice!

I will be doing a short presentation for the kids. Pray for a effective presentation next week and that the kids will be attentive and not get distracted!

On another note, I came across this joke by Jimmy Holmes in Reader Digest's Juuy edition, which has a subtle message behind it.

A banker approach the Pearly Gates sweating and struggling with a heavy suitcase. St Peter greets him and says "Set the suitcase down and come in."

"No way!" barks the banker. "I have to bring it in!"

"What could possibly be in there that's so important?" asked St Peter

The banker opens the suitcase to reveal 50 gold bricks. St Peter's jaw dropped open: "You brought pavement?"

Indeed, there is truth behind this joke. As Christians, the bible has already provided us with an idea of how heaven may look like. It is a beautiful beyond imagination.

The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stones. (Revelation 21:19)

So what is this banker 50 bricks of gold worth? Well, it would be of very high value here on earth, but what is it's value in heaven?

This is why in Matthew 6:20, we are asked to store our treasures in heaven, where neither moth or rust will destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. In this verse, Christ has already cautioned us not to be so soaked up in the worldly joys and glories that are only temporary. Afterall, our short plus minus eighty years on earth is merely temporary. Let's all not be too short sighted and learn to see the bigger picture of life. Learn not to be a worldly man, but learn to be a godly man!
